Al Ferrier

“King of Louisiana Rockabilly”

Quick Intro

Al Ferrier was a pioneering Louisiana rockabilly artist whose fiery vocals and rhythmic guitar helped define the Gulf Coast sound. His long-standing relationship with Jin Records and Master-Trak Records—both part of the Flat Town Music family—cemented his legacy as a foundational figure in South Louisiana’s roots music scene.

In-Depth Profile

Born Alfous Glenn Ferrier on August 19, 1935, in Olla, Louisiana, Al grew up in a large musical family. He formed Al Ferrier & the Boppin’ Billies with his brothers Bryan and Warren, blending country, Cajun, and early rock ‘n’ roll into a uniquely Southern fusion.

Ferrier’s breakout single “Let’s Go Boppin’ Tonight” was released by Goldband Records in 1956 and became a rockabilly classic. But it was his later work with Jin Records that showcased his evolution as a songwriter and performer. His 1990 LP Greetings from Louisiana (Jin LP-9030) featured original compositions like “Agitatin’ Woman” and “Living a Lie,” recorded at Praet Recording Studios and published by Flat Town Music Company.

He continued performing into the 2000s, often backed by the Louisiana Swamp Cats. Ferrier passed away on January 6, 2015, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, leaving behind a catalog deeply intertwined with Flat Town Music’s heritage.
