A brief history…

Charles “Charlo” Guilbeau Jr., renowned songwriter and musician was born and raised in the Beau Basin area. He didn’t begin his musical career until his thirties, but certainly caught on fast. His songwriting abilities have attracted many Louisiana artists, such as Don Rich, Warren Storm, Johnnie Allan, and many more. He is a member of the group The Sensations and also began his own group in 2003 called Charlo and Southern Tradition.

In 2004, Charlo was presented the Heritage Award by the Cajun French Music Association which is given to encourage songwriters, poets, writers, educators, and the general public to research the history of their culture, not only supplying entertainment but an education as well. Charles’ latest accomplishment, “A History of the Cajuns” clearly illustrates the concept behind this award.
