In the mid-1970s, Rod Bernard learned that his old friend Clifton Chenier was “between contracts.” Unencumbered by legal agreements to this or that label, in other words, he could record for or with anyone he wanted at the moment. Seizing the opportunity, Rod made a musical proposition to Chenier, one that Rod had dreamed about for years: “Why don’t we make an album together?” Rod recalls, “This recording is the final result of an idea I’ve had for many years: to record an album with the ‘Zydeco King,’ Clifton Chenier! You see, I was raised on boogie and blues. My all-time favorites are Fats Domino, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Reed, and, of course… Clifton Chenier.” -from the liner notes by Shane Bernard.
