First it was guitar-driven swamp pop, then it was a sequencer-stacked solo act. After a five-year recording hiatus, Hunter Logan returns with the full-blown classic experience with a band loaded with old school keyboards, sax, trumpet, bass, drums, lead and rhythm guitars. Throughout the course of these ten tracks, Logan has it dialed in enough that’ll likely please the greasiest of swamp pop papas and mamas still craving their ’50s fix. Logan understands the ins and outs of swamp pop and neatly divides the disc between what works on the West Bank (“Betty Jean,” “Jamie’s Lounge”) and what gets the thumbs up in Southwest Louisiana (“Let Someone Else Drive”). Besides the lolloping “Jamie’s Lounge,” Logan wrote three others, the swooning “Hey Girl,” the bouncy “Westwego” and the calypso-tinged “Caribbean King.” Also superbly folded into the mix are a strand of ’80s country hits from John Anderson and T. Graham Brown as well as Warren Storm’s signature song “I Need Somebody Bad,” which lands this one as Logan’s best yet. With each word tenderly caressed and every note soulfully played, Logan no longer hunts for his place in the swamp pop sun. ~Dan Willging. Released in 2005, 10 tracks.
