Before drums and guitars were available for Cajun folk music in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, a pair of gumbo spoons were commonly used to help keep time to the music. A fun percussion instrument, the “spoon in a handle” uses a space age rubber like fill to give the spoons a bounce and make them easily held by anyone without extensive practice. The use of spoons in Cajun jam sessions and bands is starting to make a comeback. *UPDATED! Now made with larger, heavy-duty spoons for a truer, stronger tone!
